We’ve seen the trend for Cottagecore and traditional country style interiors rise in popularity over the past few years with an interior designer in Brighton and homeowners across the country adding nostalgic accessories into homes. The appeal is in its ability to provide a sense of familiarity in an often uncertain world. From floral wallpaper to bed valences and decorative wall plates, my latest blog explores the on-trend ways to add a traditional twist into your home.

Wall plates

Plates with text like "HEAVEN" and "FOREVER" hang on a gray wall. A striped lamp, bowl of fruit, and books are arranged below.

A nod to granny chic, adding plates to your walls is something that not all of us are into. Now I love a beautiful plate, I’d go as far to say that collecting them is almost a hobby of mine, but for me I’m ok with them staying in the cupboard, or at a push using them in my shelf styling. However, if you’re up for it, then it can be a fun way of creating an interesting gallery wall in a room - helping to create a separate zone. Mix with a few lovely pieces of eclectic art and you’ll create the perfect on-trend and pretty display where you can admire your pretty plates every day.

Bed valences

Perfect in more traditional or period homes, a bed valence is a great way to hide that messy underbed storage or spare mattress. They also really look the part in children’s rooms as they allow interior designers in Brighton to add a little more colour and pattern into the room. From bold designs to frilly sheer fabrics a bed valence can be a great way to tizz up an old bed and give it a little facelift. Everyone from designers to high street brands seem to be offering these at the moment, in fact I’ve just ordered this simple linen design from H&M to hide my underbed mattress – I’ll take a photo once it’s arrived, but I think it will really pretty up my spare room.

Wallpaper boarders

When showing my husband a brand I loves latest wallpaper boarders collection he said that he had them in his family home growing up over 30 years ago! I’d go as far to say that this is a pretty old-fashioned new trend, but I think used correctly in a well designed home by an interior designer in Brighton, it can add a point of interest and make doorways fun again.

Headboards

As an interior designer in Brighton this is an easy one for me, and it’s a big YES. Interior designers are known for loving fabrics and beautiful prints so why wouldn’t we add a gorgeous statement headboard to the bedroom. The tricky question is, which fabric to choose when there are so many gorgeous designs out there. And let’s not forget about the shape too, from simple rectangular designs to wiggles and curves I can help choose a style that works for your home.

Pelmets

Again I’m not sure this is a trend for me.. I don’t know if I can move past their boxy and dated appearance, however there are plenty of homes where they look great, and if my client would like to add this to their home then I will of course be happy to help.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little look back at some of the latest granny chic trends we’ve been seeing around lately.
